A Greeting from the Professor
Welcome to the Department of Metabolism and Endocrinology at Akita University!
Our department is committed to the education and training of medical students, graduate students, and clinical trainees in the fields of diabetes, metabolism, and endocrinology. Our research is primarily focused on obesity, diabetes, and diabetic nephropathy. Specifically, we aim to:
1. Identify gene regulatory networks in adipocytes that influence systemic energy metabolism.
2. Explore novel extra-pancreatic functions of incretin hormones in various organs, including the kidneys, lungs, muscles, adipose tissue, and the central nervous system.
3. Uncover the precise mechanisms underlying the development of diabetic nephropathy.
Through these efforts, we strive to develop innovative strategies to better manage obesity and the complications and comorbidities associated with diabetes—challenges that remain critical to the effective treatment of this complex disease.
